Friday's weather: Severe thunderstorms, and another day of extremely high fire danger conditions

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the southern parts of the Northern Cape, extreme south-western parts of the Free State, the north-western parts of the Eastern Cape, and the Central Karoo district of the Western Cape.

The South African Weather Service has also issued a watch for severe thunderstorms over the south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

Extremely hot conditions are expected over the Central Karoo.

It will be partly cloudy and warm in Gauteng, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the Highveld.

Cloudy with fog patches are predicted for Mpumalanga in places in the morning, becoming partly cloudy and warm, with isolated thundershowers on the Highveld in the afternoon.

Limpopo will be cloudy, with morning fog patches along the escarpment and over the central and southern interior, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot.

It will become fine in the north and east from the afternoon.

In the North West it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme west.

Fog patches can be expected in the Free State in the east at first, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the east.

Fog along the coast can be expected in the Northern Cape at first, otherwise fine and hot to very hot conditions are predicted.

It will become partly cloudy over the interior, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the central and north-eastern parts of the province.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly to north-westerly at first, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly.

In the Western Cape, it will be cloudy in the west at first, with morning fog along the coast.

It will also be fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy along the coast and over the north-eastern parts, where it will be extremely hot, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly north of Table Bay, otherwise moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly, spreading northwards from the afternoon.

It will be fine and warm in the western half of the Eastern Cape, but hot to very hot in the places over the interior.

It will become partly cloudy along the escarpment, with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon, spreading to the central interior.

It will become cloudy along the coast in the evening.

The wind along the coast will be light north easterly at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly reaching strong in the east.

Morning fog is expected in the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape in places adjacent to the coast, otherwise fine and warm, but hot in places, becoming cloudy along the coast in the evening.

It will become partly cloudy over the interior, with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon, but scattered in the north-east.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north easterly at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south westerly in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions can be expected in KwaZulu-Natal with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-easterly.
