Heavy rain across parts of the central interior of SA

Severe rain is expected across parts of four provinces in South Africa's central interior on Tuesday.

Severe thunderstorms are expected in the western Free State, the extreme north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the north-eastern interior of the Eastern Cape.

The temperature along the coast is expected to be cool to warm, according to the South African Weather Service.

Weather forecast and UV index for all provinces

Gauteng: Cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

UVB sunburn index: High.

Mpumalanga: Partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south.

Limpopo: Partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in in the western and central parts.

North-West Province: Partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the extreme north-west.

Free State: Cool in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the extreme west.

Northern Cape: Fog along the coast in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, but very hot in the extreme west with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east, but scattered in the extreme north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly becoming strong in the afternoon.

Western Cape: Partly cloudy and cool to warm, with rain along the south coast until the afternoon, and isolated showers and thundershowers in the north-east from the afternoon, but fine in the west where it will be hot in places. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly in the south, otherwise fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

UVB index: Extreme.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy and warm, but cool along the coast, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate south westerly.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Rain along the coast, otherwise cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy and warm, but hot in the north-east, with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate northerly to north-easterly north of Richard’s Bay, otherwise southerly to south-westerly becoming south-easterly in the afternoon.
