Intense cold front to hit parts of SA this week

South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning to residents of South Africa about an approaching cold front that is set to reach the west coast on Thursday, bringing with it intense weather conditions.

The impact of the cold front is expected to be felt in the southern high-lying areas of the Namakwa region in the Northern Cape and the interior of the Western Cape starting from Thursday, according to the weather service.

People and livestock farmers are advised to prepare for cold, wet, and windy conditions, as stated by the weather service. Additionally, there is a possibility of disruptive rainfall in the mountainous regions of the Cape Metropole and southern parts of the Cape Winelands.

Weather Forecast for Tuesday:

Gauteng: The day will be occasionally cloudy and cool, with morning fog patches in the north and east. The UVB sunburn index is expected to be low.

Mpumalanga: Cloudy conditions with morning fog in some areas and drizzle along the escarpment, followed by partial cloudiness in the afternoon.

Limpopo: Initially cloudy with morning fog in certain places and drizzle along the escarpment, gradually becoming partly cloudy from the west later in the afternoon.

North West: The weather will be fine and cool, transitioning to partial cloudiness.

Free State: The weather will be fine, becoming partly cloudy and cool to warm, with some areas experiencing cold temperatures in the east.

Northern Cape: Partly cloudy and cool to warm, with morning fog in the southeastern high ground. The southernmost areas will be cold. Moderate to fresh southerly winds are expected along the coast.

Western Cape: Cloudy conditions in the western parts, otherwise partly cloudy and cool, but fine in the central interior. Light to moderate north-westerly winds are expected along the coast, while moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly winds are expected along the south coast in the afternoon.

The UVB sunburn index is expected to be low.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and cool weather, improving to fine weather in the afternoon. Moderate north-easterly winds along the coast will become moderate to fresh south-westerly in the afternoon.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Morning fog patches in the eastern interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool. Moderate to fresh north-easterly winds are expected along the coast.

KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog in the western interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool weather. Light north-westerly winds are expected north of Cape St Lucia in the morning, while gentle to moderate northerly to north-easterly winds are expected along the coast.

The UVB sunburn index is expected to be high.
