The South African Weather Service has released a yellow level 3 warning, signaling disruptive rainfall that may lead to potential flooding in the south-western areas of the Western Cape.
During the afternoon and into Friday, the presence of damaging waves will make navigation at sea between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay challenging.
A distinct cold front is forecasted to reach the southern high-lying regions of the Namakwa area in the Northern Cape and the interior of the Western Cape on Thursday, subsequently affecting portions of the Eastern Cape.
Accompanying this cold front will be cold, wet, and windy conditions.
Here's a breakdown of the weather in different regions:
- Gauteng: Expect fine and cool to warm weather. There might be morning fog patches in the north. The UVB sunburn index is expected to be high.
- Mpumalanga: Anticipate morning fog patches in the north-west, while the rest of the province will be fine and warm.
- Limpopo: The central-southern parts may experience cloudy skies with morning fog patches, gradually becoming fine and cool to warm.
- North West: The region will be fine, windy, and warm. In the afternoon, the central and western parts may experience partial cloudiness.
- Free State: Initially, the region will be fine, but it will become partly cloudy, windy, and cool to warm. Except for the north-east, isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected.
- Northern Cape: Expect partly cloudy, windy, and cool to warm conditions, with isolated showers and thundershowers in various areas. Central parts will become cloudy in the afternoon. Winds will start as light and variable but become moderate to fresh from the north to north-west.
- Western Cape: The weather will be cloudy and cold, with widespread rain starting from the south-west and spreading eastwards over the interior and south coast by morning. Some regions will experience scattered showers and rain. Along the coast, the wind will be fresh to strong, blowing from the west to south-west, while the west coast will have a north-westerly wind initially. The UVB sunburn index is expected to be low.
- Eastern Cape: The southern part will be cool, while the west will be partly cloudy, warm, and windy, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north-west. In the evening, scattered showers are expected along the south coast and adjacent interior. Along the south coast, the wind will be light to moderate westerly, but it will become fresh to strong south-westerly in the afternoon. Along the east coast, the wind will start as moderate north-easterly, then shift to moderate south-westerly around midday, and fresh to strong in the afternoon.
